Effective 2020, the law school at Valparaiso Indiana we will be closing. The school had been in operation
139 years. The University where the law school is located however, will remain open.
Other law schools across the country have closed as well. Indiana at one time, had 5 law schools, Maurer
school of Law in Bloomington, McKinney school of Law in Indianapolis, Notre Dame in South Bend
Valparaiso in Valparaiso Indiana and Indiana Tech in Fort Wayne. Indiana Tech had only recently started
in 2013 enclosed in June 2017. Indiana was the only state that had more than one law school close in it.
Law students in Indiana receive a doctor of jurisprudence degree at the end of a 3 year program. The 3
years of law school follow an undergraduate degree. There is no specific decree require to enter law
school. Many times students however enter law school with a liberal arts degree in areas such as
political science, economics ,or criminal Justice.
